Emmitt Lee Zinn, a 70-year-old black man, died Sunday, April 15, in the 2600 block of Windsor Avenue in Altadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as John Doe #60.]
Zinn's body was found burning on a sidewalk with the feet bound and a ligature on one wrist, authorities said.
Although the autopsy on the man has been completed, investigators with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department still do not know what caused his death.
He was discovered by a passerby at 6 a.m., not far from Devil?s Gate Dam, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a popular trail head into the San Gabriel Mountains.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter indicated that further tests — toxicology, histopathology and neuropathology — are needed to determine how Zinn died. Results from the tests will be available in six to eight weeks.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff?s Department's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
